It depends what size etc. but at the moment the asters are looking pretty
good in my garden and the sedum are in flower now. The cornus is turning
bright red (leaves and stems) and the purple berries on the calicarpa are
pretty. The japanese anemone's are also still looking good and the gazanias
and schizostylus (kaffir lillies) are still providing a splash of colour.

And the humble Calendulas are in full flower.

Just a note to say
Thank you to all you kind ( and experienced) gardeners who have answered my question so far.

The nicer Autum plants I know of would be:

Virginia creeper (a self-climbing vine that turns shades of red/brown)

Witch hazel bushes (they put on an excellent display in Autum)

Holly (because it has evergreen leaves and excellent berrys, but you'll need a male and female plant for berrys. I want some holly soon as they're useful for Chrismass decoration).
