Peat is totally comprised of plant matter how can it be considered
inorganic or am I missing something here?

It would be helpful to ditch the term "organic" as applied to gardening
and instead talk about "Planer Friendly".

"Fossil" fuels such as coal and oil are no (pedantically) renewable and
are often disparaged. Wood being renewable is "Planet Friendly"

Hear hear. That is in effect what I have been yammering about. Use only
chemicals and mechanical processes which appear to be beneficient and cease
using any one of them as soon as there is scientific evidence that there
might be significant deleterious consequences from its use.

That would involve logic rather than emotion. Unlikely to work with those
who believe (for example) that its good to kill insects indiscriminately
with something like soap solution, but bad to kill only aphids with
something designed and tested for that purpose. Or that copper sulphate and
lime is acceptable to spray on grapes, but not a fungicide thats been tested
to be safe, and is demonstrably safer than the chemicals found naturally in
many food plants. Or that adding Vitamin A to rice via GM is evil, but it
wouldnt be evil if you accomplished the same thing by selective breeding.

A nice summary of my stance as well.
