Who's in there?

I've recently cut down an entire allotment plot of brambles and discovered a
mound of earth right in the middle of it (and one golf ball). The mound is
about 3 foot both ways and has an entrance hole about 5 inches both ways.
There's no droppings but if I get very close to it I can smell urine!
(Sorry). It still seems to be in use because the hole is being kept cleared
despite having no cover now . Any clues as to who might be in there? The
plot is situated in a large park surrounded by woods in a city. As far as
wildlife I've only seen a fox and a few squirrels.

Stuck in a bunker?

Are you taking the urine?

If it is a badger, and that was certainly one thought that came to mind,
are there not legal protections for them.

I think 5 inches is too small for a badger.
Let us know what you find, Anne!

If it's a badger then it is a very small one with an entrance hole of only
5inches, That's just about rabbit size.

But the smell of urine doesn't sound like wabbits. I'd go for
subterranian decigoats or maybe piskies.

Another thought - is there an anthill nearby? They tend to smell of urine.

Mock not!
We had a pair of racoons in our garden in Buckinghamshire.
Not for long, though - they were trapped and returned to their owner.

Were you growing sweetcorn, at the time? :-)

Please tell all. "Raccoons in the garden" is an urg legend. For you to
have actually had some, in the UK, is roughly the equivalent of an
urgler reporting irrefutable evidence of fairies at the bottom of their
garden. Instant fame! :-)

Janet.

Apparently there are racoons in Leicestershire!
