What has everyone found in their garden just now? We have Fuchsias, a
Cestrum, Rhododendron, Hydrangea (new flowers, not just hanging on types)
Sarcococca, one lonely violet, Iris reticulata, Pulmonaria, mimosa just
about to burst forth, Chaenomeles, comfrey, Daphne bholua, Mahonias,

I'll tell you tomorrow - it's dark outside, thobut I can report a
cascade of winter jasmine.

Hello Sacha:
If possible, would you kindly let us know which species of Nerine are blooming
in your garden.
Thank you,

We have roses in flower, a bit windswept after last weekend's gales,
but still in flower.

And I should have remembered the winter-flowering verbena. Mahonia is
just beginning to burst, and there are winter aconites and some violas.

That would seem to be all. Even the snowdrops haven't raised buds yet.

Hydrangeas (hanging-on oldies), mahonia, schizostylus, hebes, rose,
escallonia. Most surprising of all is fascicularia bicolor which
unexpectedly came into flower while we were on holiday last week. Each
rosette of spikey grey leaves has a centre of bright scarlet leaves; in
the middle of the scarlet is a flat blue flower head 2" across, with
gold bits. It looks like an artificial Christmas decoration :-) The
plant in flower is roughing it out in the (sodden) garden beside a
sheltering rock; one which I cosset in a large pot under the porch in a
sunny dry frost free place has no flowers or scarlet leaves.

A pot of phormium seeds is germinating in the cold frame, and
montbretia and watsonias in the garden are putting up new leaves..it
might be Spring, folks.

Janet.

Lonicera xylowhatsit, Hamamelis mollis, cyclamen (the not quite hardy
floristy sort), the orange small wallflower look-alike,
and then the usual winter ones - Viburnum bodnantense and tinus, winter
jasmine, winter flowering cherry, violas

Not a patch on yours, but not bad for cold yorkshire clay. And a lot of
early new shoots - daffodil flower buds, for example.

The rosemary bush has been in flower for a month, penstemons still going
strong, fuchias escaped the frost so far, geraniums under the front window
are putting up new flower buds and I picked a ripe lemon from my lemon bush
on Christmas eve!

Daphne bholua 'Darjeeling' can be detected from a couple or three tens of
metres away. Absolutely covered in flowers and my favourite plant in the
garden. Mahonia 'Charity' has been flowering for about two months.

Other than than, there are no buds on the Snowdrops, Viburnum bodnantense
'Dawn' is still in bud along with Prunus subhirtella 'Autumnalis and
Hammemellis mollis.

Cyclamen coum is flowering in the polytunnel only.

BTW does anyone grow these (supposedly) winter flowering wallflowers?

Mine have been in the polytunnel since September (bought as plugs from
Gardening Direct) and are just thinking of coming into flower now.

If you can find some shelter in your winter garden the Correa's are all
looking good in mine, the Abutilons that have dangly flowers always have
some on and a particular favourite is Acacia retonoides in flower from June
to March, looking all yellow and fluffy (its scented but even I am not so
keen to venture out while there are still mince pies to be had!)
I also noticed the first flowers on the helebores are out.
happy christmas all :~)
