We are visiting Babbacombe nr Torquay for a Royal Navy reunion from Friday
23rd to Monday 26th. If we visit the Eden Project on the Monday, how long
should we allow for the visit? Is it worth going at this time of the year or
is it an all year attraction 'cos it is under cover (some cover!!) and any
tips please?

Many thanks in advance.

All day? It's an hour-and-a-bit from here (Totnes way) and a couple of
hours to go over it, in our experience. We get parties coming here for the
morning who are going on to 'do' Eden in the afternoon. With an early start
and having checked opening times and pre-booked fast track tickets, so as to
be there at crack of, I'd think a morning (or afternoon) would do it.

I'd agree, half a day is enough. Now, if you go in summer, you'll need to
spend
half-a-day queuing just to get in!

We have had a second think and as Saturday is a free day, we thought leave
Babbacombe 0930 arrive Eden 1130, depart 1600 arrive back at Babbacombe in
time for pre Dinner drinks at 1800. By what everyone has said on this
newsgroup and uk.local.Cornwall, I feel we will have time to do it this way,
even though we are talking visiting on a Saturday ;-} Weekend 'crowds'????

Have you considered the Lost Gardens of Heligan as well/instead?
Guess it may be the wrong time of year, but they are well worth a
visit if you ask me.

Yes we have thought about those and we have all the details, but would be
unable to visit both at once. However we go down there 2 or 3 times a year,
we usually have a Trafalgar Dinner there in October, so could visit then.

Where I organise reunions and group holidays for people, I have a nice
'little' collection of details to many attractions :-)) The trouble is I
don't know which to go to next ;-)

Bit early, I'd say. I did think of suggesting a visit to Lanhydrock (house)
but it won't be open then.

If you haven't 'done' Lanhydrock or Cotehele or Castle Drogo, I recommend
all those. But as they're NT check opening dates, days and times. And
Cotehele is only worth visiting on a bright day because there is no
electricity at all. The number of visitors to Cotehele is almost limited,
so if taking a party, check your number can all get in at once.
IF people feel like forking out for the helicopter ride (about £80 return
per person, I think) you could go from Penzance to the Tresco Abbey gardens
in a day - fabulous place. You can lunch on a snack at the gardens,
slightly more substantially at the New Inn and poshly and extremely well at
the Island Hotel. Not to be recommended for those with walking
difficulties, though. Air museum at Yeovilton?

Have checked that one out in my new book which arrived yesterday :-)) They
say give it half a day.

or Cotehele

This one I see is limited to 80 to the house at any one time. I had this
problem on one group I took and split the tour/buffet between the groups so
all were catered for. 'Pink Tickest' for one buffet, 'Blue Tickets' for the
other buffet :-)) As long as the staff are aware of waht is happening they
are OK. 3 coaches into the Eden Camp in Yorkshire is fun :-))

or Castle Drogo,

I see that they are not open on a Tuesday which is somewhat important to
bear in mind well in advance!!

I recommend

That would add quite a bit to the overall weekend and I would have to be
sure of numbers well in advance, nevertheless many thanks.

Air museum at Yeovilton?

Yes that has been asked for by both the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force.
The latter I took to York Air Museum in November. Wonderful Remembrance
Service in their Chapel on Remembrance Sunday. 136 into their little chapel
was 'cosy'. (Sorry 139, we had 3 coach drivers)

Do have parking for a couple of coaches and tea facilities if I include you
on our itinerary ;-)
