Certainly wasn't Spring on Saturday when we were in Torbay Palms at Torbay
Garden Centre. We saw this huge black cloud coming and it came when we were
inside. Noise!!!!!

Well our primroses aren't near flowering yet but we have an iris species
flowering, looks good amongst the light snow covering, and still our summer
fuchsias are flowering (just) in their pots against the house.
Strange thing was at the same time as the snow was falling this evening
there was thunder and lightening, not experienced that before.

We get some pretty spectacular electric storms round here, what with
it being the highest point in Hants - but tonight's cabaret was
definitely a first for me.

I caught the first flash as I headed round the rim of a valley, and
the whole vista lit up in an incredible blue light.

Bearing in mind that it's pitch black round here, and visibility was
down to about ten yards - and given that lightning and snow aren't
common bedfellows, it completely put the willies up me.

Fortunately, by the time I got home a few minutes later I'd recovered
my composure enough to fall on my arse in three inches of snow when I
got out of the car.

We had thunderstorms on and off all day yesterday. We are three feet
above sea level so at a relatively high altitude for the low
countries.

We've got one Rhododendron in flower since about 15th...did it last year
too.

Do you know which it is? There's one called R. nobilianum (IIRC) and that's
very early. The particular primroses I saw are the first every year and are
growing in a bank. I always mean to collect some seed from them but perhaps
that's not allowed. As I always forget, too, it's a moot point anyway!

then you can collect seeds and even cuttings but it's illegal to remove a
whole plant.

The electric storm reached here as well. I don't remember thunder and
lightning and snow at the same time either.

First garden primroses and crocus appeared in flower last week - St. Helens, Lancashire. Magnolia flower buds enlarging,
but not yet open. We don't allow snow here - well not very often. Just a lot of rain, hail and a short snowfall that
failed to stick in the last 2-3 days.

I was over at Ness a little way back. There's 3 types of Rhododendron in
flower there - 'Rosa Mundi', nobleanum venustum and mucronulatum.

Also Abutilon megapotamicum and what they've labelled as Abutilon
'Kentish Belle'.
