Thanks for all the replies, however as I said in the original post, we
already use Cormaic's site quite frequently ... patio 1 , crazy paving,
pergola etc. We're quite good at garden "hardware" now.
We actually wanted to pay someone to do it for us this time! Since no-one
seems to have any advice in that area we're just making time to do it
ourselves as usual.

As for the stabbing .. pruning my ramblers last week involved my being
stabbed quite a lot. I've got the bruises to prove it.
