Something is wrong somewhere.
I sent an ordinary e-mail to ask for voting papers 2 days ago. The

letrter
seems to have gone, but I have not heard anything since.

And why do I still see nothing about a CFV in either uk.net.news.config,

nor
in uk.net.news.announce?

I suspect your ISP...

I suspect confusion at the network configuration end.

I would definitely suspect your ISP's news server. You might find NIN,
the free German server, useful. See http://news.individual.net

I also still have the destructions to sign up to the free news server I
am currently using

I complained and repeated my request for voting papers.
I received them within half an hour.
I filled them in and sent them off. (If you are curious, I voted NO)
I received no acknowledgement of receipt of the voting papers.
Instead, I received another set of voting papers after 12 hours.
Do I fill in the second lot, thereby possibly spoiling my vote by attempting
to vote twice?

The proper course of action is to email the votetaker on the specific
address given - - which was in the CFV and I
have separately noted in u.r.g

As I said in the other thread, votes are checked manually and are not on
the end of an autoresponder & the votetaker will acknowledge a vote
within 5 days as the CFV states. As it happens, I shall be checking
votes again in a short while so you can expect email.

FWIW, if the Ballot ID is identical on both the original from the UKV
server and my email to yourself then you would not spoil your vote, the
later vote would merely supersede the earlier vote. One of the reasons
for issuing Ballot IDs is that you can use the same ID to change your
vote. If the IDs are different then voting again would spoil your vote.

There's an address to e-mail for such queries.

Indeed & the votetaker doesn't bite if it is used for a query. I only
ask that I can reply to the email (comment not aimed at Franz, I have
one query outstanding where the domain part resolves to 127.0.0.1
localhost which precludes replying).

The net is doing some very strange things ATM: a lot of my posts don't
seem to be appearing.

Email is, I think, worst hit at the moment. The number of copies of
Netsky.B I get to one of my domains is verging on the ridiculous.

Ask Pedt, the vote taker (??), what to do he has posted here in the
last few days.

With a bit of luck he will see this. But I will contact him anyway after a
day or so. I don't want to stir the water before the mud has settled.

There is nothing obviously not arriving at this end. I think I see all
your postings here, there are no obvious gaps in your stream of
subliminal subconsciousness :-)

OTOH, a post I wrote a week ago turned up in another place, answers have
appeared to posts I made, but have not appeared in my downloads, (This
is almost certainly down to Zetnet, as a copy should go straight to
packer) and answers are appearing to posts by other people - posts which
I haven't seen.

Others are mentioning non-arrival of posts. (Germoline, IIRC)

Fortunately, our ISP is zapping all known nasties and a lot of spam on
the server. I can honestly say that I haven't seen a virus, trojan or
worm by mail since about two or three days into the Sobig deluge.
