After all that activity at the beginning of February, ardour was
dampened by all that cold weather, and we didn't get our first frogspawn
till yesterday

First batch of spawn on 22 February, more yesterday, increasingly
frantic and vocal activity today but no more spawn.

We have a fair bit now but I just hope the earlier lot wasn't frosted.

No frogs for us yet. We had toads a fortnight ago, but the daft
buggers spawned right on the surface of the water and the ice of a
week ago killed it, or at least, it's gone milky now.

But the toads came back two days ago and are having orgies out there
again now, last years fish have come out of hiding and I've just seen
a water boatman!

I saw a comma butterfly yesterday. Really felt like spring!

And today I've switched the central heating back on.

Pond is like a day out for a bus load of Vicars!

Uuuurp! More tea,Vicar??

Uuuuurppp uuuurrrrppp urrrrpppp....

....cue Paul McCartney.

More this year than I remember in a while, and very noisy.

The year we built the pond we had some Irises and pond weed from a friend's
clogged pond in an Early Learning Centre paddling pool on the patio under
the bedroom window. Until then I hadn't quite realised how noisy frog sex
was. (Oh, mon cher...er... no, don't go there).

Looks like it might be a bumper year - either a lot of baby frogs or some
very fat goldfish.

Cheers
