Voting SPAM

Hi,

since voting in the 'allotments' thingy I have noticed an apparent increase
in SPAM to my voting address, which was published in a SPAMtrapped(ish)
format.

Anyone else had similar problems?

Makes you wonder why they have to publish an email address if they have
confirmed your normal posting 'handle' is backed by a valid email address.

Just as well I used a 'spare' account.

Cheers
Dave R

I've had a *tremendous* increase in virus spam (with the attachments)
from this morning, but I didn't vote in any allotments thing. I don't
think it's connected to that, there's something else going on. It's
happening to my husband at work today as well, and he doesn't use his
work email address for any non-work related stuff. So something a bit
more cunning than usual is going on, it seems.

Virus SPAM is something different - an infected machine has your email
address.

I am talking about offers to increase the size of various organs, the supply
of various drugs, and lately a query if five miles towing is adequate(!).

This is mainly commercially orientated SPAM using consolidated lists of
email addresses.

One source of these addresses is the automated trawling of News Groups for
valid email addresses.

There was an attempt to 'conceal' the addresses after voting but I am not
sure it was effective.

Cheers
Dave R

Mine was in the same list. My spam volume hasn't changed, and by the
headers it's the usual garbage about viagra drugs and confidential
financial deals with Nigeria.

Do a Google for the 419 Eater site. It is hilarious.

I don't think any of them bother with automatically reassembling munged
addresses in the bodies of items, the returns would be so tiny.

I've suddenly started getting spam to an address which hasn't been used
in the wild for five or six years. Old archives are being rifled, it
seems, because so much stuff nowadays is spamtrapped.

I've got an aol screenname I never use just to keep track of what's happening
spamwise. It has shown a huge spike in the spam levels in the last couple of
days so there is probably some new spam lists been sold somewhere.

Is your weather bad? We've had two glorious sunny blue days. Working
outside today I actually felt the sun HOT; if I'd had been wearing a
Tshirt under my sweater it would have been the first outdoor-Tshirt day
of the year :-)

I wish you could all see the tall campbellii magnolias in flower at
Brodick castle atm; we can see them from two miles away across the bay
like huge lighted candelabra in the woods. I keep making little
pilgrimages with the dog to stand underneath them and swoon with
pleasure.

Janet (Arran).

That's it. Please find us a nursery for sale in Arran. ;-) Our M.
campbellii got frosted and all the buds were killed off - same thing
happened not last year but the year before. It's Ray's personal memorial to
himself. He planted it in the adjacent churchyard several years ago and it's
flowered much sooner than one would expect but if this is going to keep
happening........

Normally we get very good weater here in the East Anglia - the nasty stuff
come in from the west and gets dumped on Wales and everyone else before
getting to us.

However for the last few days the weather had been cold, rainy, and the rain
has had hard white lumps in it!

This is not what I pay my Council Tax for!

I feel a stiff note on cardboard to my MP coming on.

Hmph.
