Seek advice: Best start for new Hornbeam hedge in wet soil
 

Hello,

I'm a newbie to this group - I'm pretty much a newbie to gardening too!

Three years ago I moved to a new house and planted a beech hedge. The soil
is very damp and quite heavy, and very few plants survived - those which
did showed little growth.

Over the winter I pulled them out, dug through the soil and mixed in lots
of gravel, some chicken manure pellets, and bonemeal. All the plants are
now showing good signs of life.

What's the best method of ensuring they get good growth this year? Should I
leave well alone, or should I stir in chicken-manure pellets, or bonemeal,
or growmore, etc.?
