Clematis advice please

Is it too early to start hardening off 2 young clematis plants that I have
been nursing all winter? I need to plant them before mid-May as I'll be away
& unable to water them.

Thanks for any words of wisdom!

If they're very small you'd be better off hardening them up a bit first.
Put them out during the day and then somewhere frost-free but unheated
overnight. We're further south than you but near Dartmoor and for young,
possibly a bit tender-to-start-with, plants we recommend that people don't
put them out into a flower bed until danger of frost is over. You should be
able to find out where that is round your way by ringing your local radio or
weather station - or just asking a gardening neighbour.

I planted out 2 today! Mine have been in pots in the garden all
winter, so harden yours off a bit before planting them. Plant them a
bit deeper than they are in their pots. They should be fine.
Good luck.
