Default capilliary matting

I'm working away from home at the moment, so I'm not able to water my
seedlings except at weekends. I've tried a paper table cloth dipped
in a container full of water, but it hasn't worked, for some reason.
Maybe the area was too large? Anyway, I need to investigate
capilliary matting, but it does seem rather pricey. Any suggestions
about getting it cheaply?

My local http://www.wilko.co.uk/ store was the cheapest source I found.

It depends how much you want but:
http://www.nurserybitz.co.uk/acatalo...eral_Purpose_C
apillary_Matting_96.html
and
http://www.plasticsbypost.co.uk/capillarymatting.htm

might be worth looking at.
