2nd year wisteria pruning
Looked at a few books but still need some advice. My 2nd year wisteria is
about 8 foot now, and growing well on a single strand. It is about the point where I want to train it two ways horizontally along a wall. Should I prune it now ?, how do I get it to form into two growing shoots, or should I wait ? help needed. -- Regards, Stu Devereux. Fax no. 08701339568 (Outside UK fax 448701339568) E-mail. |

I was told by a clematis grower that you should prune twice a year first in February down to one or two buds and again in October down to 3-4 buds. I have one growing on a catenary and I just bent one of the shoots off in one direction and didn't prune it back and put the leader on a wire in the other direction again didn't prune until it reached where I wanted it. It is a wisteria venusta which is very vigorous. Hope this helps |
