Default magnolia mite or fungus?

Hi ukrg!

My stellata has on it's trunk and branches this infection /infestation (?) !
It doesn't appear on the top, only the underside of the branches. The
problem appears as spots /scabs that when removed, have underneath the crust
/skin, there appears what i can only compare with a spiders clump of fuzzy /
fluffy eggs (?). Rub between your fingers and it pretty much disolves.
Anybody aware of what it might be, is it harmful ? Treatment required? Or
are there any web sites that show disease and pest photos!

All replies and advice gratefully accepted.
