greenhouse staging side?

If a wooden greenhouse is east-west on the spine. Which side would the
staging be? I thought the south side as I intend to have my cacti in there
and use it in the Winter. But a book I have said it will shade things (more
so cos its wooden staging?).

any reason why one side is better than the other?
