Growing cherries from stones

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts. I should say that we can
afford to buy a cherry tree g - this is just for fun! - and yes, we
do have an acre (not quite "or two") to play in, so space isn't an
issue. Whether we have ten years or not, who knows?

I think I'll give it a whirl - it gives me another excuse to buy some
more cherries. Thanks Franz for your lovely word picture of the
cherry trees growing along the railway line.
