.... because I was too dim to label them when I planted them. Doh.

http://littleurl.com/?01k6

There's a shot of the group of herbs (to give an idea of scale) and separate
shots of each herb. There are four. In the seed packet were thai basil,
thyme, summer savoury, oregano, majoram and dill, so these are the likely
suspects I suppose (I could have forgetten what was in the packet though so
the list isn't rigidly limited to those I mentioned.)
I don't remember which ones I planted where but I know I didn't plant all of
them so that's why there's only four.
Dill I've got in another pot so I'm pretty sure none of them are dill - I
know what that one looks like.

All the pictures I can find on the web of the likely suspects show the plant
from a distance - not enough detail for a visually impaired bod like me to
clearly identify them. I can say that the one with the tiny white flowers in
a ball formation smells very strongly, like pizzas ! Oregano ?

Excuse my ignorance but my herb growing extended to lemon balm, lavender and
parsley before this year which I have no trouble identifying because they
are very uniquely smelly and very obvious in their shape. However I don't
know what the possibles in the list above are supposed to smell like !

Remind me to label them if they're all in the same pot next year !

TIA

Rachael

I don't think any of them are marjoram. Sweet marjoram is one sort of a
wider group of 'oreganos' - all your photos seemed to have too small leaves
to be any of the oreganos I recognise.

I think the one on the right hand side of the 'pot' pic is thyme, and I
think the one with the white flowers might also be (another sort of?)
thyme, though I'm less sure on that (thymes are pretty varied in colour and
growth habit)

I think the plant with the longer leaves at the left hand end of the pot is
summer savory, assuming that that is the same one as herbno1.jpg.

Not sure about the tall gangly one in the middle!

Try summer savory. Winter savory looks very like a thyme with white
flowers, and the leaves of the second from right match summer savory.

My recommendation is to say "sod it", and use the ones that you like
the taste of. NEXT year, try labelling them :-)

Nick Maclaren.

There was a very broad leaved thing that came up in that pot but dried up
almost immediately. It smelt quite strongly - I thought it was basil but
there you go. It coulda been majoram !

I think the one on the right hand side of the 'pot' pic is thyme,

Ok, ta.

Ok soo - we got thyme on the right
and summer savoury according to Nick second from right (I think the one with
white flowers that Victoria called a thyme is actually second left, herbno2
as opposed to second right)
But herb1 with longer leaves on the left is summer savoury according to
Victoria.
brain ache !

I wonder what the really smelly little one second from left is then ? It is
very fragrant !
(Futher delving)
I think you're right Victoria - the one with the white flowers - if you
meant second from left when you said that - seems to be Common Thyme or
English thyme http://plantsdatabase.com/showimage/5135/

So we got a thyme on the right and a thyme second left - and summer savoury
is a hung jury. ;-)

Heh heh. In seperate pots too. Are any of these going to be around next year
or will I have to start from scratch ? I've had a lemon balm that's been
around for a couple of years now.

Thanks guys.
