Newbie question

Hi all,

I am new to gardening and i dont have land for garden so I just plant
all my herbs indoor. I am trying to grow italian parsley but the result
isn't that good. The stem can't seem to grow straight and the young plants
have yellowish green leaves. Is this a sign of insufficient watering and
sunlight? I am using 2 20W compact flourescent as the light source and I on
them for 16 hours. What is going wrong? Anyone please give some gardening
tips. Thanks.

I think you have far too little light - I suspect the crooked stems are due
to the plant straining round to whatever other light sources are available
throughout the day.

If the fluorescent lights are not designed specifically for plants, they
probably don't produce a full spectrum of light colours - and 20w sounds
low. You need specialist grow lights like the ones from
http://www.growell.co.uk/.

Alternatively, if you have a windowsill that gets the sun, that would be a
fine place to grow herbs, at least in the summertime - in winter you will
need extra lighting or they just don't grow much and tend to get greenfly
(at least, mine do!)

That ought to be enough light, if you suspend them about 20 cm above
the plants.
