Garden Quiz

HELP!

Trying to help arrange the Gardening Association show for this Saturday
in the midst of mass absenteeism of half the committee, I have been put
forward for the compilation of the 20 question quiz
(along with doing the lunches, the printing and the cake stall)

I need to find 20 questions that are hard(ish) but not so hard they will
overwhelm people. Typical standard is
Where do dahlias come from
or which insect does Phytoselius attack
(It's done on the day at the show so no looking up etc)

(you get my drift)

Can someone please help think up some questions?
Please please please?

I can dig out erudite questions from technical tomes that even Kay and
Jill might find difficult but not stuff that taxes an average gardener's
brains without leaving them put off entering.

I did think of finding 20 photos of gardeners in the media to be
identified but thought that might be a bit boring.I suppose I could do a
couple of plant identification picture but it would have to be commonish
plants.

I've looked on the web but most quizzes want you to subscribe to a web
site that produces quizzes for pubs and I only want this one.

Janet, below is a quiz I did for the local community. I have copied it in
two sections, because the second section had the answers.

Some are 'VERY' basic because the quiz was for a cross section of people,
not all gardeners.

7 or 8 sections covering General Knowledge, Local knowledge, Trivia etc etc.
The end result was that I had made to questions too hard!!

anyway, help yourself, and if anyone wants a copy of all sections, let me
know

Mike

Section 7 Gardening

Question 1 On the BBC TV programme "Ground Force" which member of the team
specializes in water gardening?

Question 2 Hydrangeas are a familiar sight on the Island, but what is the
climbing variety called? Botanical name please.

Question 3 What do the initials "R.H.S." stand for?

Question 4 Which popular Christmas plant has brightly coloured bracts?

Question 5 The flowering cherry 'Prunus Amanogowa' has a very distinctive
shape. What is it?

Question 6 Does the Bearded Iris grow from a rhizome, a bulb or a tuber?

Question 7 The perennial border plants Hardy Geraniums are derived from
which native wildflower?

Question 8 In gardening terms, what is a perennial?

Question 9 What conditions does Lavender prefer, dry and sunny or moist and
shady?
