Default Snake Bark Acer

During the autumn I plan to get rid of an ornamental crab apple
which is sadly too large for the infestation of woolly aphid to
be eradicated effectively. I thought I might be winning, but was
soon disappointed.

Because of the infection, I will not be using the shreddings on
the garden, it can all go in the green wheelie bin.

In its place I want to put a Snake Bark Acer, and would welcome
recommendations for possible specialist sources in my area,
especially if we decide we can afford to go for a more mature
specimen.

'Chris',

It is commonly known as a Snake Bark Maple. There are quite a few
varieties of them and a few of them are described on this site.

Decide which one you want and the RHS Plant Finder
http://www.rhs.org.uk/rhsplantfinder/plantfinder.asp
will tell you where you can obtain it. For instance, it says that there
are 31 suppliers of Acer Davidii (Snake Bark Maple) and gives details of
three of them which are in the midlands.

Regards,
Emrys Davies.

My experience with these was many years ago but they still have a
decent reputation in the trade

Don't waste your money on a mature specimen. They are quite shapely
when young, and they grow quite quickly.
