Default Lawn grass height

I was thinking that it would now be best to let the lawn grow slightly
higher in preperation for winter, is this correct thing to do? Last year I
was overrun with moss when spring came around and I am hoping doing this
will help. What sort of height would be best

thanks.

In September - 6.35mm longer than the summer height. (1/4" for older mowers) :-)
From October higher again.
