Default weed grass?

My lawn has developed areas of `weed grass` a much corser grass than was
planted, a few areas of around sq metre each. What is the best way to deal
with this assuming its too late for this year and would have to do in the
spring.

thanks

'Juco',

Are you able to pull it up roots and all? Best done when the soil is
quite moist. If you can do that the surrounding grass will quickly
spread into and cover the affected areas, particularly if kept moist.

The only other way would be to remove the offending grass in the spring,
loosen the soil, rake the area into a fine tilth, and plant grass seed
which will match the remainder of your lawn.

Make sure that your soil level in the resowed areas is high enough to
prevent there being a hollow in the lawn when the soil has settled and
compacted.

You could, of course, buy some turf and then you would see what type of
grass you are getting before you commit yourself.

Regards,
Emrys Davies.
