Default Tiny garden surrounded by high buildings

My garden is tiny and surrounded by high buildings. All the plants
invariably grow high and straggly to reach the light. Can anyone
suggest flowering plants that are resistant to this phenomenon?

Depends how much shade, are we talking very dark or open aspect but just no
sun?
Ferns are the obvious choice but you do specify "flowering" so they are no
good.

So from RD Encyc of Garden Plants & Flowers choose the right varieties
from...

Anemone; Aquilegia; Asperula; Astilbe; Aucuba; Bergenia; Cimicifuga;
Convallaria; Cyclamen; Digitalis; Dryopteris; Endymion; Epimedium; Eranthis;
Erythronium; x Fatshedera; Fothergilla; Galanthus; Helleborus; Heuchera;
Hosta; Hypericum; Lamium; Lilium (some); Mahonia; Oxalis; Pachysandra;
Podophyllum; Polygonatum; Primula; Pulmonaria; Rhododendrum; Ruscus;
Stuartia; Symphoricarpos; Tiarella; Tolmiea; Trillium; Trollus; Vaccinium;
Veratrum; Vinca; Viola.

There's a few to look up in the books. :-)
