Default Bundles of hazel rods

Anyone know where I can get them in Essex/Suffolk/Norfolk?

I want to make my own hurdles around my vegetable garden's beds and there
aren't enough in the hedge

Bradfield Woods, just east of Bury St Edmunds. One pound + VAT per
stick (c20-25mm diameter) they come in bundles of 10. Peter Fordham is
the man to talk to and his number is 01284 810379 but I don't have
much success contacting him that way I just turn up at 8.30am when he
arrives for work

Anna, you are a star! Thanks. BTW I checked out your website last year and
am highly impressed, when we win the lottery your pargeting on our
4-year-old thatched cottage will be high on my wish list. I'm just 9 miles
from Bury.

However, his price makes the ready-made jobs from Atlantic Country
Superstore (! the name - but they stock masses of good stuff) in Bungay @
£17 for a 6' x 3' hurdle sound more reasonable, when the labour (and damaged
hands) are taken into account.

At that rate it will cost a few thousand pounds to rig up the shelter

I want a coppice! In West Sussex, where I used to live, there was about 6
miles of coppiced woodland at the bottom of the garden. They made split
chestnut fencing.

This Mr. Fordham would be a multimillionaire down there just fencing in a 4
acre garden. He might of course be charging that for the cream of the crop -
perfectly straight etc, the hurdle ones might be cheaper.

Go for a walk! I get all the hazel sticks I need this way, with a pocket
pruning saw.

I should have said that they are about 8 foot long and meant for
wattling. They probably do hazel in different diameters and lengths
for other uses

Seems a bit on the pricey side.
I was chatting to me local forester just the other day, and he tells
me he gets 30p a stick from coppicing. Assuming that's the going
'trade price', a quid plus vat is a hefty markup.

Yes I think it is expensive and if I tried I could get them cheaper
but it is just down the road from me. Of course if the OP is coming
from Blakeney or Braintree then it might not stack up :-)

Its Suffolk County Council who are making the millions! Peter Fordham
is just am employee. Oh and I've thought of another source of coppice
products. A nice lad, Neil Seggar, who is a self employed woodsman,
which I would think is much more financially precarious than working
for the council. So perhaps you should take your trade there. He's in
