Hardwood prunings, say 12 - 18" long, about the thickness of a pencil or a little thicker, and put into a well drained gritty compost. Tamarix should be pruned regularly to stop it getting lanky. In Cornwall, they are frequently used as wind-breaks on exposed hedge tops. It is/was common practice to poke the prunings into the soil between bushes to thicken up the hedge, as they root very easily. Prune the late-flowering varieties in late winter / early spring, the early-flowering varieties after flowering. -- Chris E-mail: christopher[dot]hogg[at]virgin[dot]net |
