baby treefern - grown up yet?
I have a young tree fern bought as a tiny baby, and now needing to be
potted on from its 8 inch pot. It's a bit over a foot tall, and just starting to show some trunk. I've been keeping it potted up near the house so I can keep an eye on it and cosset it a bit - is it now big enough to be able to take its chances out in the garden, or should I just pop it into the next size up of pot? And, if pot out - now or in spring? Victoria -- gardening on a north-facing hill in South-East Cornwall -- |

Being a perpetual pessimist, I have worries about it being out of doors in the winter in an open pot. Remember it will lose heat from the sides as well as the top. Might it not be better to plant it out, free of the pot? And, if pot out - now or in spring? Franz |
