I had the same problem. Often, the ball was kicked over simply to create
an
excuse for trespass. At first, I returned the ball. After many such
incidents, I warned the lads concerned that if their ball continued to
land
in my garden, I would pierce it and put it in my dustbin.

This warning seemed to have the desired effect. By warning them, I felt I
was not stealing their ball, but simply confiscating it - permanently.
The
law is usually reasonable enough to accomodate a fair warning. If you
have
any doubts about this type of warning, I suggest you offer to return the
ball every time - but *only* if the parents collect it. I think you will
find this helpful! The chances are that the parents won't become
involved
because the kids will suddenly stop sending the ball over.

Try it - it really worked for me. (By-the-way, I'm a 5'4" lady, not a
6'2"

no he did not *get* out, he was *let* out along with all of the dogs. He
was also only a pup at the time. What happened on that day was partly the
reason he is as he now is. Since the day when (according to the police)
scumbags opened my gates, they will never be able to do so again as they are
now padlocked as well as the bar dropping down into slots.There is no chance
the gates can be opened again and other than the gates, there is no access
or exit to my land.

I am proud of Kip because he is a brave and very affectionate dog who
doesn't give his trust easily and who would defend me with his life.What's
not to be proud of? Now if he was a fat slobbering labrador or spaniel who
fawned at the feet of strangers no matter who they were, than of course I
would not be proud, I would be downright ashamed.
Kip is well trained. Someone was stupid enough to walk into my kitchen some
months ago( a debt collector who thought my house was the one he wanted. It
wasn't). He climbed over the front gate, and walked in through the side door
into the kitchen and was mooching about in my pile of mail on the side.
Harley and Kip were beside me when I went to make a cuppa tea and both are
capable of putting someone in hospital. I jumped and yelled when I saw this
bloke in the room and the dogs sprang forward immediately. The bloke held up
ID and said he was a bailiff or something and both dogs immediately stopped
when I told them to leave.They did sit in the doorway and snarl but as long
as I was there he was safe enough as long as he didn't come towards me or
threaten me in any way. Yes indeed, I am proud of my dogs. Had he been a
burglar or someone else bad, *my* dogs would have offered protection,
whereas some fat and sloppy labrador or spaniel would have ambled across,
rolled over for a tummy scratch, farted and licked the bloke.

Since you are never likely to come in contact with my dogs I don't see why
you should be so u[set about whether they bite or not. Unless of course you
are a typical daily mail reader , living in middle England, and thinking
that they know how things should be.
Good for you if this is you. Some of us however don't and Kip and the
others are protection for me and mine.No pikey scum will break in to steal
from me and get away with it.

Generally they don't in a rural area people are outside walking about all
day long. Only ladies of leisure like me and townies would want to walk for
pleasure and not along a flipping freezing cold riverbank with a fen wind
blowing straight off the wash. That is why I walk there with the dogs,
because nobody else does. And if they did, all of my dogs are well enough
under my control that they immediately come to me when I tell them to.
Kip is no danger to anyone unless they either break in here, or attack me
when I am out. Unless it is macho men who have something to prove and want
to see what he will do when they move to stand between he and me and too
close for my comfort.
