Wierdly, a hollyhock and a lavatera are still soldiering on: even the
scabious have a few blooms, though they have dropped back from being covered
in bloom as little as three weeks ago. Winter Jasmine of course, the
occasional rose, erysimum 'Bowles' Mauve' and several wallflowers, plus a
Christmas Rose.

Andy.

Whats in flower then?

My daffs are 4 inches high but not showing colour yet (Rijnveld's Early
Sensation, one of the earliest\). I spotted a Winter Aconite about to open
in the garden today and Celandine virtually open. Snowdrops are showing
white buds

Some of my daffodils (same sort as yours) are in flower and the camelias are
starting to flower.

Fully open daffs here, much to the sadness of commercial growers according
to the local media today. Mine are barely up above the very unkempt grass.

Just cut arm fulls of Lonicera x purpusii for the scent, Camellia St ewe
should be out by Christmas day, both of which are normal. Daffs and snow
drops no where near up here, not even leaves but several Hellebores out.
Should be able to start some gardening after Christmas having spent the
autumn rebuilding what is now the worlds poshest outside loo! Happy
Christmas all.

Just got back from a very frozen doggy walk - any signs of life
yesterday seem to have been (literally) nipped in the bud. But with the
bright sun and frost and somewhat frozen lake, it was just like winters
used to be - and the dog certainly seems to get much more excited. I
think the scents of wildlife must be stronger in the frost?

I've just noticed a solitary Clematis flower in bloom, it's Dr. Ruppel I
think, not as nice as in the summer though. My Brachycombes are still going,
and a few clumps of Alyssum have flowers. Also, a few Marguerites are still
going, though the frost last night singed them: I don't think they'll last
out the winter at this rate, which is a pity, since they're too big to dig
up and stash in the greenhouse.

Andy.

No snowdrops here either, and I'm 30 mile further west from you! Not
even leaves, as you say. I was beginning to think the mice had got
them, with so many reports from up country of them almost in flower.
But we have got one or two camellias just in flower, and some gazanias
and red-hot pokers still going from the Autumn. Also some fuschia
flowers hanging on, and Euryops pectinatus is flowering well.
