Winter colour

Looking for something to provide a bit of colour into the winter next
year?

My veg plot is all but barren now, apart from a block of leeks
awaiting their destiny at table and a group of wallflowers that will
provide cut flowers in the spring.... and a stand of Swiss Chard.

The Chard is Marshall's Rainbow Assortment... which gives three
varieties; standard green with white stems, yellow stems with green
leaves and red stems with red leaves.
The whole stand is in superb condition after a good few frosts, with
the green leaves presenting a beautiful deep, shiny green - but it's
the red variety that are putting on their best show, with a deep
scarlet finish.
Set against a frosted garden they add a defiant streak of colour
against the muted browns and greys of this time of year.

I've had to enclose the stand in wire to keep the deer off - but
nothing else seems to bother these plants.

A pretty and tasty addition to an overwinter border.

Regards,
