The first year I had my Hamamelis 'arnold promise' it flowered ok.
Last year, it was magnificent. This year, there are several suckers
and it doesn't seem to be flowering well at all (maybe I'm
impatient?)

Should I remove suckers? Any point in trying to grow them?
