Christmas is fast approaching and the perennial problem arises, what to get
for presents........with this in mind I wonder what others have on their
wish list for this Xmas.

I would love to have the clock/calendar stopped for a couple of months to
let me catch up with all the work that never gets done.
Failing that what I would like is a good light weight pair of secateurs,
with fine tips to get into the small spaces that you sometimes have.

The thought has just struck me..Why is it a "Pair" of secateurs....One
secateur would be of no use.

or a pair of scissors. Is one piece of a pair of scissors a 'scis' and
if so which part? The part with the place for 2 fingers etc?

and which if they are equal?

and why a 'flight' of stairs?

SKS to remove/eradicate/terminate/getridof/zap a big area of Japanese
Knotweed while I'm off over Christmas and leave me with a few dozen good
species Rhododendrons (of my choice) to plant when I get back to work. I
have fairly modest needs.

That's on my list as well. Got it down to around £25 for an indoor digital
display with up to 3 external sensors with built in frost alarm and max-min.

So I stay warm inside and see what temp it is outside without actually going
out there.

Look around a bit -- there's one that logs the time and date of the
maximum and minimum as well, and it's got a radio-controlled clock as
well. I've seen a bunch of similar ones under various brands, but I
think they may all be made by "Oregon Scientific".

And then there's the "Thermochron ibutton", a little metal widget that
looks like a button cell. One plus readout thingummy for the serial
port is US $35, from Dallas Semiconductor

thermometer, but it does a lot more, and you can pretend that you
urgently *need* one to log hard drive temperatures or whatever.

We have the Oregon Scientific "indoor-outdoor" thermometer system. It
works beautifully - the clock on it is always correct because it get the
time signal from Rugby every hour, which keeps it right. We've had ours
for three years this Christmas, without anything going wrong. We'd
miss it if it did go wrong, and would certainly replace it. I wonder if
Arran Time is more generous than Greenwich Mean Time :-)))
