peach cancker ?

Hello,

Last year I bought a peach tree. The book "The Fruit Expert"
recommends Peregrine, so that is what I bought and why.

I used the book and diagnosed that my tree had peach leaf curl, so I
bought the fungicide that the book recommended and sprayed.

Everything seemed ok and I got some fruit, a little smaller than those
you get at the supermarket and I lost most of them as windfall! I will
have to shelter them from the wind this year. How would I do this:
fleece or netting or something?

With other fruit trees, what causes the drop is not the wind itself, but
the tree trying to carry more fruit than it can bear. If it has too many
fruit develping, then it automatically thins itself out by shedding some
of them - in apples, it's called the 'June drop'. Good growing
conditions and making sure the peach is not short of water in summer is
likely to be of more help than a windbreak.

Anyhow, I worry I may not get that far. I have noticed that some
branches have small but swollen lumps. The "mature" lumps are a black
colour and shiny.

How big are they?
If they are tiny - a few mm - I'd be thinking scale insect.
