Smell of sulphur from pot rosemary
 

At Christmas I was given a rosemary plant in a pot and have been keeping
itin the garage until the worst frosts are past prior to planting out. I
noticed that if I water from the bottom there is a strong smell of sulphur
from any water not absorbed. Also the tips of the shoots have gone very
light green and floppy.
Never had this before and wonder if there is sulphur as a fungicide in the
soil/compost. Any ideas for remedial action would be welcome.

Rosmary is fully hardy so you don't need to keep it in the garage. I guess
the light green/floppy tips are because the plant is putting out new growth
which is getting leggy due to the lack of light. I'd move it outside during
the day only for a couple of days to get it hardened off and then leave it
outside by the side of your house until you're ready to plant it.

Not sure about the sulphur smell but it'll probably clear up as soon as you
get it in the fresh air outside.

you would go floppy and smell a bit too if you were locked in a dark garage
all winter!

Put the poor thing outside and let it breathe and get the light!

Do you hear scary music when you get the sulphur smell? Have you had any
kids with rotating heads speaking in deep snarly voices (teenagers do not
count)? Look under exorcism in the ecclesiastical section of the yellow
pages.

Let it dry out a bit .. rosemary is more of a dryish plant.
I leave mine out pots or not all year .. and they're thriving.
