Asparagus ...in a polytunnel?
Hi
I've bought 6 Asparagus crowns from Wilkinsons. 3 have been planted in my polytunnel. Good idea...? I'm in Buxton, Derbyshire so I had hoped that putting them in the polytunnel would bump up the crop but since planting them I can't find any references to putting Asparagus under cover. And there's also the issue about the 'dormant period' over winter ... Cheers nicholas -- Nicholas Buttle - Quality Joinery and Cabinet Making http://www.nbjoinery.net -- |

And there's also the issue about the 'dormant period' over winter ... Used to grow fine in my greenhouse in Belgium. The asparagus bed was already in there when we arrived. It crops a bit earlier indoors extending the season. Cold dormancy and space wasn't a problem since it was used for grape growing and left open to frost in winter. Don't take any shoots off newly planted crowns in the first year... Regards, Martin Brown |
