Pruning vines

The recent improved weather has caused the grape vine to start sprouting
much foliage and buds of the fruit. Is it to late to do any more pruning or
thinning down of the foliage?
Many thanks
John

Fruit 'buds' already? Are you sure?

Well, my Vitis coignetae has.

Yes, it is far too late to cut into last year's growth, but you can
pinch out shoots and buds with no problem.

Those will be flower buds rather than fruits forming. That's normal
growth for this time of the year. You could pinch out some of them now
if you want to restrict the amount of bunches to grow, but that is
better done when the fruit bunches are forming so that you can select
any poorer looking ones to take out. At that stage, you will also see
new shoots forming and you can choose how many of those to take out.
That is summer pruning. After the grapes have been harvested, vines
need autumn pruning, when a lot of new and old growth can be cut out.
