Growing aqualigia from seed

These appear to need going in the fridge for 3 weeks is that right?
i was looking at alpina.
no luck with my blue poppies so i am a bit reluctant
to go with the fridge idea.

Got this from RHS book:

Sow seed in containers in a cold frame as soon as ripe, or in spring. Seed
of the alpine species may take 2 years to germinate.

Sow Aquilegia alpina at 5C, germination takes place over several months, no
need to stratify seed in the fridge.

See http://www.backyardgardener.com/tm.html

But Aquilegia are usually fairly easy esp fresh seed.
Gotta nice range of Aquilegia species from Chilterns a couple of years ago.
