If you want quantity..have you thought of asking your local nursery for a
price for what you want,??

I've tried that .. they are not specialists in such things so tend to
import heathers etc .. Thusly the price is still not right

Kinda looking for around £1 a plant or less for 1 or 2 year old pot
grown winter heathers .. looking for around 60 to 100 ...

Have you thought of looking for something else? ;-) I asked Ray about this
and he says you won't find them at that price unless you're really extremely
lucky. £1.00 a plant over 1 or 2 years care represents starvation for the
nurseryman, I would think. They're propagated or bought in, compost,
fertilisers and pots have to be paid for, so do staff wages and insurance,
taxes, rates, public liability insurance, loo paper, light bulbs, heating,
and indeed food for the nursery family etc. etc. Running a nursery isn't a
hobby and it costs. £1.00 isn't going to cover any of that over 2 years.
We don't sell heathers but as an example, our Primulas are now 50p a pot for
big, chunky, healthy plants or £2.50 for six. But 'all' we've done with
those is bring them in as plugs, over-wintered them and potted them on
twice, once into trays for autumn sale, then into 10cm pots for selling now.
Now, even given that we haven't had them for 1 or 2 years and haven't had to
pot them on more than twice, we still have to sell them for 50p and that's a
lot cheaper than many other places.
OTOH, miracles do happen and you could keep your eyes open for garden sales
and for a nursery that's packing up and selling off stock. Or you could buy
a few plants and raise your own - slowly. ;-)
