Am looking for opinions.......other than getting an earlier crop are there
any other advantages to chitting potatoes?

Yes and no.

They will produce the same amount of crop whether they are chitted
before sowing or not, and there will be very little difference in the
calendar date when they are ready to lift. They will be marginally safer
from attacks by mice etc. - or even by unaware cooks!

OTOH, tubers are safer from frost kept indoors that bit longer and their
growing time in the ground will be that bit less. The later sowing date
gives the grower a better chance of preparing the growing site. Plus
chitting them gives the option of rubbing out some of the chits, or of
dividing tubers which are carrying a lot of chits. It also reveals any
'blind' or rotting tubers which may be there.
