Some honest feedback needed...
 

Hi All,
I'm new to this newsgroup but hoped you wouldn't mind if I asked a favour?
I would like to try and gain the honest opinions of members of
"uk.rec.gardening" on a gardening book we are about to publish and as such I
would like to give away 10 copies to those people who contact me first.
It's 155 pages of what, I feel, is genuinely useful information for those on
a time and money budget. It covers topics like: Easy Lawns, Fast Flowers,
Delicious Fruit and Vegetable plots, Easy care plants and an Annual
Gardening Activity Calender.
The cost of the book is normally £12 but obviously in this case it is free
to the first 10 readers who get in touch. The only thing I ask if you would
like a copy, is that you actually read it and email me back a few lines on
what you thought of it.
To get a copy can you please send me an email with "Gardening Book" in the
subject line to: and I will send you the download link
for the book.
Please be assured I won't retain your email address - I'm literally only

I regularly have books sent to me to review with the Royal Navy theme and I
know for a fact that reviewers are vetted as to their authenticity and the
fact that they are not just 'book collectors'. AND a proper hard/soft back
print is sent.

The company does exist. It's registered address is in Cupar, Fife, and it's
existed since 2002. Its declared nature of business is indeed publishing
(well, whatever "2215 - Other Publishing" is in Companies House-speak).

Having said that, I agree this is an unorthodox way to get feedback on a
book. However, small companies have small budgets and if knowledgeable
feedback can be gained in this way, at little or no cost, then why not?

Could that be the number for "subsidy publisher" aka vanity press?

I'm not sure of the value of the feedback gotten this way, but for anyone
with a curious nose and a throwaway email addy and a Palm Pilot (so as to
not be tied to the computer screen or using precious ink)...

stir up a hornets nest though. My offer is indeed genuine. I have already
passed the details to a few who were kind enough to respond. I admit that
the use of a Hotmail address may seem a little "iffy", but like yourself I
don't want our main address to perhaps suffer from spam in the future just
like I'm sure you don't. If anyone would still like a copy for review then
please contact us as before. (As someone pointed out yes, we are a real
company based in Cupar, Fife in Scotland)

but don't you already have a list of people you use for reviews? Suitable
people who are keen gardeners and would say what the amateur gardener thinks
and wants? Forget the pro., they are in a different "Money Making" world and
would want their business advertising in a 'Thank You such and such
Nurseries for your bla bla bla advice'

yes we have an existing customer list, but not of people who have bought
gardening products. We don't specialise in gardening information as such -
we publish titles on a wide variety of subjects.

Let me know if you need feed back or a review doing on anything ex Royal
Navy just pre WWII up to the 1960's 70's at a push.

Getting into the RAF as I am Chairman of the National Service (RAF)
Association with getting on for 2000 members, but there are quite a few
books on RAF National Service. Not so many Royal Navy National Service as
there were few of us. There is a National Service (Royal Navy) Association,
again I am Chairman of that, but it is a lot smaller even though I started
this one first. (Then the RAF wanted one, that's how that one started)
