Default We have frog spawn

Our first frog spawn today in Leeds

This March 2nd, compared with:

2002 March 5th
2001 March 12th

1999 March 13th

Otoh the crocuses, wallflowers and rosemary are later than they were
last year - crocuses and wallflowers by a couple of weeks, and the
rosemary still isn't in flower.

We still have no frog spawn, but then the pond was frozen till last week
which gave them a bit of a handicap.

On the other hand rosemary and crocuses have been flowering for some time,
but they're on the sheltered South facing side of the house.

No frog spawn in my pond yet...but maybe that's because the cats brought in
another dead frog last week :-(

Will check the one at school tomorrow. I know there wasn't any last week
because the Reception Class wanted some for their topic on 'Natural
Changes'.

We have lots of Crocus & Iris in flower at school and even some Tulips.
Yesterday I noticed a whole load of Daffodils in full bloom, around the
corner from my house.

Ours was frozen last week too! Husband was looking at it saying 'last
year's frogspawn was Mar 9th - there's no way there's going to be
frogspawn by Mar 9th this year'

That's a very good pic!

She looks as if she's enjoying it, but he just looks grimly determined
;-)

We had to persuade one of ours that he wasn't going to get anywhere with
the pump cable ;-)
Pond at the front has at least 8 frogs and the spawn
Pond at the back had 12 frogs lined up like a row of taxis in the deep
end, and a few more further up - it'll be a few more days before we get
spawn in there. Although that pond is at the south of the house, I
suspect its depth keeps it cool a bit longer.
Old pond, tucked in the shadow of the house, hasn't anything as yet.

Jeepers! If any one didn't bother to go and have a look, you really
should you know.

Brilliant photo! Are you a professional?

We had about 40 frogs on the paths leading to the pond last night.
This is a much larger number at any one time than last year, so that's
very heartening.

Thanks and please feel free to use it. It's very reduced in size and

I have got rather bored with the background I made for myself out of
Cuban pebbles (Windoze desktop).

Just musing.

Here on the Black Isle (20 miles north of Inverness) we noticed our
first frog spawn this afternoon, just one day earlier than last year.
My husband was planning to drain the lower pond tomorrow to clean the
circulating pump. We'll just have to hope it keeps going until the
autumn and try to clean it then.
