Lavender

Having built the pergola I was thinking of putting lavender along both
sides. I'll end up putting several varieties as I normally do, I just
don't have the self discipline to limit myself to good design methods
and have only one type!

I was wondering id anyone had done any comparisons on which lavender is
the most scented. It doesn't need to be the 'prettiest' I would like to
plant the strongest scented types if I can.

I think it will be augustifolia but are there any others similarly
scented?

ISTR seeing a scent- comparison list at a flower show on a lavender
specialist's exhibit (wonderful stand, I'd no idea there were so many
different lavenders). "Norfolk lavender Company" perhaps? I think they
have a website.

OT, in case Stan is reading.. a so-called "French Street Market"
which travels to various towns here for a week at a time, was in
Inverness last week. One of the traders had laid out on the pavement
hundreds of large pots of lavender in full bloom, like a billowing
purple and silver carpet, humming with bees. As I was admiring this
aromatic vision of loveliness, the vendor said in best Estuary "Bloody
terrible stink from that stuff innit".

Try the Norfolk Lavender site - they sell plants and they grow for
perfume, so their recommendations may well be accurate
