Default Red Spider

My patio area is infested with tiny red spiders, they are everywhere. I know
that it isn't red spider mite. I've tried Jeyes fluid to eradicate them but
without success. Has anyone come across these creatures or know how to get
rid. All advise appreciated.

Why not leave them alone? The very worst that they will do to you
is tickle, and they are useful at keeping pests down.

I'm all for keeping pests down, but these are so numerous that they make it
impossible to sit on the patio furniture without ending up with numerous red
stains on your clothing. Also I forgot to mention that they are no bigger
than 1mm. diameter.

Ahh, maybe not quite so straight forward.
First identify your red spider.
If it is a 'red velvet mite' - which are definitely spider like,
one of its look alike species has carnivorous 0.5mm larvae which can
cause 'heat lumps'.

Yes, I know what they are. There was an article in the Independent
today about how people now regard gardens as merely rumpus rooms
without roofs, but that is definitely a sign of Not A Real Gardener.
Seriously, don't wear clothes that aren't washable if you are going
to sit on patio furniture. In addition to those, there is blackbird
dung in blackberry (or blackcurrant) season, algae (not always easy
to see) and numerous other things.

Nick Maclaren.

True. But, if your abilities are adequate, you could impress them
by an extended period of pleasuring upon the decking.

Back to the original question.
We had a lot of these creatures when we lived in Cheshire. They are reported
to eat the eggs of other small creatures including woodlice and could as
NMcL implies be counted as a gardeners friend.
If there are a lot of them about there must e a good cache of goodies for
them to feed on.

David
Back to the original question, would involve offering guidance on how to get
rid and not advising on the abundance of prey that may be available!
