Foxglove with flower spikes off main stem

Hi all,
A foxglove in my garden has flower spikes coming off the main stem as well
as the main stem flowering. It's like having mini foxgloves growing from the
main stem. I've never seen a foxglove like this before. Is this usual in
other parts of the country? I'm in Central Scotland.

Many thanks
Colin

I should have added that it is over 6 foot tall

Sounds reasonably normal: I'd most usually expect branching if the
tip had been damaged, though. Yours are obviously very well
nourished, so perhaps that gave them the chance to develop the
"embryonic buds" (what _are_ they really called?) lower down the
spikes.

If you cut the spikes back before the seeds start to mature, you'll
get this useful effect.

AFAIK it's the standard growth form for foxgloves.
