Top soil - newbie question

What sort of price would I expect pay for top soil?

I've called a couple of places who've said that their top soil has been
"screened to 20mm" which I presume means there are no stones bigger than
this. Is this standard, or should I be looking for a different 'spec'.

Sorry to sound so stupid about this. First time!!

Thanks in advance.

M

Top soil - newbie question

'mandy',

I strongly advise that you follow the advice given on this site as it
says everything that you need to know, except the cost, and I regard it
as a well written document for those delving into soil buying for the
first time.

As for cost, you get what you pay for. It could be a load consisting of
some loam and far too many 20mm stones or a combination of loam and
clay.

Definitely have a good look at what you are getting. It is too late when
they have tipped it up on your drive.

Regards,
Emrys Davies.
