Do you mean a reel mower? Why would anyone want to use one of those?


If you have a low-growing creeping grass lawn - say, bentgrass - a
reel mower provides a closer, smoother cut. It doesn't make as much
different on standard bluegrass/fescue lawns, where the usual practice
is to mow to a 2-3 inch height, instead of a 1-2 inch height.

The other drawback is blade sharpening and replacement. At least in
the US, it's not too easy finding places that know how to sharpen the
blades, and that sell replacment blades.
