Which is why I said tough break.

The only way out would seem to be a move to rented accommodation and
voluntary redundancy with a short term future at the mercy of the
benefit system.

Doesn't come much tougher but to gamble on a business in a poor
financial state with an uncertain short term future improving may not
turn out to be the best option.
