+1 City Link were/are not the only company that seems to do this.

The better carriers now will send and email with a day and timeslot as
well as providing real time GPS tracking of the delivery van - and, the
night before, offer an option to change the delivery day/address/leave
with neighbours.

Royal mail tracking ONLY works AFTER the item has been delivered. It
doesn't tell you where your tracked item may be located if it has been
delayed or lost.
