I've got this strange bush.

I planted it two years ago, thinking it was a Magnolia bush. I love
Magnolia trees.

That said, the bush thrived, with no blooms that summer. Over the
winter all the foliage died and the bush looked dead. The next spring
it looked no better, and I almost dug it up. Then about this time
last year it sprung to life, first showing a little green growth in
the middle of the what looked a dead bush. I cut all the dead limbs
away (which was 90% of the bush), and it bloomed all green again, but
no flowers. This past winter it went through the same 'dead' period,
and now suddenly a little green is appearing again,. I am sure this
year will be like last year. So, my question is - what do you think
this bush is?
