I've got most of my spring-flowering bulbs planted and some I put in a

dutch irises at something under 1.50 for 20).

I planted a large net worth of bulbs into 6 very large tubs on Friday.

Something (possibly a fox) dug into every single pot on Sunday night
and most of the bulbs ended up outside of the pot or on the surface of
the soil.

Nasty. We have issues with cats (one in particular) which we deter
using bamboo barbecue skewers (sharp end into the pot). This has so far
worked well and dissuades them from causing damage without poking their
eyes out (which would be a bit harsh).
I have no idea if that would work with foxes but worth a try. Said
skewers cost about 60 pence for a pack of 100 here and they do not
decay quickly.
My 'good' bulbs went into three pots and are all protected as above.
The cheap ones are in a larger container which is protected by
aluminium bars until the lants are all through.
